wedding style :: what's yours?

You probably already have a picture in your head of what you want your wedding to 'look' like, whether that be rustic, classic, modern, a particular colour theme... etc...  All you have to do is Google 'What's My Wedding Style', and you are bombarded with a heap of sites where you can fill out online questionnaires and quizzes, for them to tell you what your style 'should' be.

It doesn't have to be hard.  Firstly pick the one thing that you feel most strongly about - your non-negotiable.  Is it a certain colour palette, your venue, a flower, an era like the 1950's.... ?  Whatever it is, stand by that, and use it as a base for your entire wedding selection process.  In saying that, make sure that both of you are on board with it.  It's going to be extremely difficult to have a consistent style for your wedding, if you're into all things 1920's, and your partner is passionate about a Star Wars theme.

So how does this relate back to your wedding stationery?  Your invitations are the very first glimpse your guests have of the style of your wedding.  The choice of wording and font on your invitation can subconsciously, or consciously, convey the formality of your wedding.  For instance a photo-based invitation showing C3PO and R2D2 is probably not going to indicate to your guests all the glitz and glam of the 1920s.

When designing your invitations, and stationery items in general, you almost need to treat it like developing your 'brand'.  By coming up with a definitive colour palette, patterns, fonts, and materials, you will deliver a cohesive style right from the start.
